Economy of Selid-Din

Trade Agreements

Selid Din has Trade agreements with the following Cities:

These agreements are blessed by Marduke and the Theocracy with all proper rituals. There are roads built to selid-Don for the purpose of trade. Each had been organized by the regent personally at the highest level.

Exports

Wood

As a general fledgling economy, Selid-Dins greatest export is primarily wood. It has a variety of specialty woods as well as plain old oak, ash, pine and maple. The wood exports occur in two ways. Speciality woods are grown within the forests in designated areas and chopped down and physically exported via the river or overland. This is to insure a healthy economy within the city as their needs to be support services, housing and other basic needs the city can supply to thrive. It is a living city.

Forests

The second export is in the form of forests. The city can export forests themselves...with druids actually growing forests and overgrowth via the Plant Growth spell at the locations desired by the customers. This does two things...insures the virgin forests are untouched by the growing need and that Selid_din has a steady cash flow.  It also creates good will amongst the genral population. In addition to this...the druidic Plant Growth spell can increase food production by 1/3 per season and covers a 2 mile area per casting. This version is also used to help increase goodwill as needed.

Bardic & Ranger Training

Selid-Din is a center for learning in that druids train rangers and bards in the Druids Grove section of the city. Thus there is a steady flow of learned people.

Faeire & Elvish Items

Just about all of these types of items for sale in Oerth come from Selid-Din.

Market District

Market Square (12)

Along the boulevard, businesses open since the break of day, serve food, drink or offer places to rest. No building is taller than the trees around it, so the city is green and vibrant.  Along the way, stone cairns direct the traveler towards the important city locations. The open air market lies off a side street close to the docks, providing the fresh foodstuffs and goods. Further along the Grand Boulevard is the city square. More curved than square, in the center lies the Cairns of law, where the laws of the land are clear displayed for all to read. Off the square lies the temple of Ishtar, the entrance to the City Park and Druids grove, The City hall and council chambers, The hall of Heroes, Hall of Justice, and the boulevard of the Regent which bisects the Grand Boulevard and creates the square.

Turing on to the Boulevard of the Regent, the eastern path leads to the east gate and the forest proper. Following the boulevard of the Regent leads to regency hill, the keep of the regent, the gryphon aviary and the Regent’s garden. Regency hill rises above the trees and has a commanding view of the river, east gate, and the city proper.

To the east towards the east gate lies the Guild houses, especially the Guild of pathfinders, the outdoor auditorium and theatre, and finally Office of the High Marshall. Elven and human playwrights vie to bring entertainment to the lively city. At night swarms of fireflies leave their homes to shine the way along the quiet streets. Only the faintest glimmer of melodies is barely audible through the canopy of trees that separates the Esplanade, a walk along the river, just above the docks that is the festive area of the city. Home to inns and merrymaking, it is under the watchful eye of the city guard.

To the northeast, lies the garden of the first citizen, the majority of park like area is open for all to enjoy save a portion along the wall. Here it is said, the first citizen stays when he visits the city, amongst the fountains and pools and trees of the private little garden. It is said he sits on a small mound overlooking a pond.

The Market Square is where the vast majority of the cart sellers pawn their wares.  All forms of standard (and non-standard) goods can be found in the carts and surrounding shops. All prices start at least 125% over cost but haggling is expected and encouraged. A good haggle can bring the price down to 75% of list!

"Trinket Carts" are very common here and throughout the city. They sell snacks, beverages and small gifts or items. All these items tend to be worthless but are "cute". Anyone seeing a trinket cart must make a DC5 Will Save or must stop to spend 1GP per level of person (citizens eventually become immune). This money is spent buying junk the buyer will eventually throw away, place on a shelf as a knick knack or give away as a token gift. Any food or beverages are snacks and do not count as a meal. As a recent addition, foodstuff such as “Devils Food Cake” (no nutrition, makes lethargic but delicious) and Coffee’s (addictive, grants minor benefits) are now available due to the Dark Ones influences.

Enoch’s love for children is such he is slowly using up all his levels to create marvelous toys. He is an extremely kind hearted man and will only fight if attacked. His only hatred is for illithids and those who abuse children.
