The Antimagic Suppression discipline is a rare untrainable psionic
power that, to date, only templars and defilers have been
known to have. The discipline’s origin trace back
to the origins of the Defilers. In the current culture, Defilers
purportedly find those blessed with the gift, and proceed to
do a ritual, usually when the subject is an infant, in which they are
terribly burned by the colorless fire. Only by suppressing the
field can they be affected by magic in the ritual its that defler magic
that allows them to survive. Pregnant Defilers often walk with their
bellies exposed to further prepare their children for their test. The
Defilers give some of these children to the dragons to become Templars.
Some believe this discipline is created by the colorless fire while
others believe that since the child is still an infant, the experience
triggers some sort of evolutionary adaptation. Any others possessing
this ability are avidly hunted
Mechanics
-
Requires ability to make contact (mental) to target
– usually line of sight, -
Requires a Test of Wills (contest of wisdom + strong will
bonuses), if caster wins then discipline is shut down -
Base Suppression Cost is 1 pnt/lvl of the individual being
suppressed, (multiple people add likewise) -
5% of the time (once per battle) that an anti magic field is
supressed there is a
chance at a colorless fire eruption anywhere in the suppressed area
(50% on friendly target, 50% on enemy an enemy target).
Defilers
& Templars
- Ar 1st level, Defilers and Templars gain the feat to use
psionic contact as a free action - At 3rd level
Defilers and Templars gain a class feature which
adds +1 per level to the casters contest of wills for
antimagic suppression. - at 5th level, Defilers and Templars
gain a feat which decreases the psionic point cost of Antimagic
Suppression to 1/3rd. - at 7th level, Defilers and Templars
gain a feat which allows them to shorten the suppression time so it is
suppressed only for their turn or for the durration of an instantaneous
spell. - at 11th level, some Defilers and Templars take a feat
which allows them to suppress certain areas of a psionic anti magic
feild, thereby "shaping" the field. Note that the field emanates from
the psion, so it is not possible to suppress
Spells
affecting Antimagic Suppression
-
Both Defilers and Templars get spells (granted from different
sources?) that allow them to decrease the cost, boost number of
effected, and to get past mental or other barriers. Has spell that
allows discipline temporarily to affect energy control as well (1
rnd/lvl) (4th level)
-
there are some spells that add +1/lvl caster to test of
wills(3rd) that lasts rnds/lvl or even turns (5th lvl). These stack
with the class feature bonus. These are generally only for Vengence
related spells (for a purpose whom the particular dragon supports or
the colorless fire’s immediate interests)
