Illusion
of a Spell
This
spell is a much higher level version of Burst of Magic. When this spell
is cast, the mage begins casting another spell, and an
illusion is created to make it appear as if a different spell is being
cast. The caster must know the spell that he is pretending to cast and
it must have a casting time that is identical to the real spell being
cast. If the caster does not have the "pretend" spell in memory, any
observers are allowed a contest of Bluff vs Sense Motive checks (from
the related school) to realize the illusion. As he casts the second
(real) spell, its own components, nature, and type is masqued while an
illusion is created of the verbal, somantic, material, and/or focus
components of the fake spelll. An actual magical aura is created (as
per the Magic Aura illusion spell of first level) while the second
spell is being cast so detect magic, arcane sight, a ring of spell
battle, or similar magics will register the spell actually being cast
as the pretend spell. This illusion ends the instant the other spell
goes off. Only a visual representation of the pretend spell is created
(lasting at most 1 round) which has no additional effects and the
actual spell goes off normally. The casting of this spell consumes 1
quick action. (this spell is mainly useful in tricking
counterspellers). This spell is generally only effective against
counterspellers or those watching and making a spellcraft check to
determine what the mage is casting.
