Travel on Oerth

Way Bridgeswaystation inns

  • Created by Sultan Zyntax wielding Wayfinder (using the sword's main power to bring armies to the battle against the Dark One at Tovag Baragu), the Way Bridges connect the major cities and regions that contributed forces to the armies of good at Tovag Baragu at the end of the Age of Sorrows. The bridges are powerful, mystical stone and rise high up into the air--so high that birds trying to fly off the ways (or people who fall) are permanently lost. They also enhance travel, speeding up any march, although other, magical forms of travel (flying, dimension door, wind walk, etc.) do not work on the bridges.
  • Proclamations: The bridges, known as the Ways are the property of Sultan Zyntax, and justice and order will be administered by the Order of the Lion of the Knights of the Hart.
  • Travel on the bridge is regulated by fares used to pay for the maintenance of waystations and the patrols. Travellers with writs of pilgrimage from bishops of Nyrundian churches may receive free or reduced fares for travel.
  • Waystations are places for guards to sleep, and travellers may rest there.
  • Stiletto Jim has opened several inns built like the buildings on London Bridge with ways for caravans to pass through underneath the buildings.
  • Very rarely a traveller will find that he or she walked up one bridge in one direction but ends up on a different bridge in a totally different area.
